Belgrave Lantern Parade

Saturday, June 20, 2015 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Burwood Highway, Belgrave

A community partnership between Burrinja and the Belgrave Traders Association to celebrate the winter solstice or shortest day of the year.  All sorts of wonderful lanterns parade down the main street  from 5pm when it is very dark and they look spectacular.  The Southern Dandenongs Landcare Group makes a lantern a year - well, we get local artist Glenn Scolyer to make these large lnterns for us, featuring 'Creatures of the Creeks' .  This year we are unveiling a reely eely eel to add to our collection of a platypus, yabby, amphipod - little shrimp-like creature which platypus love to eat and a galaxia - a tiny native fish.  There will be lots of other Hills creatures like Waa the Crow, Bunjil the eagle, lyrebirds, owls, butterflies,  frogs, dragonflies - you name it - some clever local will have made it.  So come and join the fun - there's music afterwards at the Tin Shed.
